Today is September 1st and that means the holiday catalog is alive and ready to order from!
Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter and Christmas themed stamps and accessories fill the pages to get us paper crafting into the next 4 months. I chosen a few of my favorites for each of the holidays but there are lots more in the catalog of course!
If you like Halloween, I love the Witching Decor Project Kit. Everything you need to make a really cool decoration that stands 13″ tall. You can also buy the Witches Night stamp set but I think it would look equally spooky with adding a big, glittery spider from the craft store on the spider web doily that is included in the kit.
For Thanksgiving and Fall projects, my picks are the Lighthearted Leaves and coordinating framelits. The acorns are growing on me and I’m having fun creating cute corny cards this season. There’s also a cute Thankful Forest Friends worth mentioning, with a folksy bear, fox and rabbit.
If I had to narrow down to 3 accessories, it’s these three! The Fine Tip glue with a little pin in the top to keep it unclogged has to be in every craft room. I can get the tiniest drop of glue for a sequin or run a very thin line. The Woodland Folder isn’t just for fall, it’s for everyday woodsy goodness. And the Iced Rhinestones are extra bling without the bulkiness.
And Christmas….golly, how to narrow down this category?!
There are 2 Kits that I recommend. One is a tag kit and one is a Shaker Card kit!The shaker kit makes 18 cards. It’s helpful to have the coordinating stamp sets but not totally necessary to make them cute .

This week I was playing around with the new 3 step butterflies, called Watercolor Wings (page 75 of new SU annual catalog) I used just the one stamp you see top right in the photo below on the vellum card stock then cut out with the coordinating framelits (page 172)
I crack up at how we all say “I already have butterfly stamps” and then we buy another one! Must be like owning 3 pairs of black shoes that all do the same thing, just a little bit different for the perfect outfit.
I used the new Metallic Thread for his ‘antlers’ (page 159). I thought it would be heavier but it’s like a fine hair, super strong but very light.
There is a new embossing folder called Elegant Dots. (page 174, 6th one over) It’s classy and has a tight pattern that balances the large butterfly. I used the new heavy Whisper white card and it’s really nice! We really really needed a heavy white stock for white cards. (see page 149)
I used the new Expressions Natural Elements, which are wood veneer words (see page 160)
They come natural but I versamarked them and added gold embossing powder. The first word I snapped in half as I pressed it into my versamark pad…don’t do that:) Instead use a sponge dauber or tap the ink pad on top of the words, then powder and heat!
Since I’m using it as a wedding card, I added an embossed greeting inside to make it more special. See the new framelits? They are called Lots of Labels on page 173. I used a larger one on the front of the card to put all the elements on.
New also this year are gold/silver foil doilies!
Shiny and bright, sturdy and both colors come in one pack with different sizes in the package. (page 148 at bottom)

Stampin’ Up home office did a quick video on stamping with embossing folders. I remember Carrie Cudney from SU doing a great demo using this technique back in 2012 at convention and I made her card using the stamped folder technique. You can see the delicate design of the Vintage Wallpaper folder (this was from 2012, so it’s retired now) stamped in Crumb Cake ink on the Vanilla card stock:

The Stampin’ Up annual catalog Retiring List comes out April 21st! I’ll post that here as soon as I get it.
I wonder if Lovely as a Tree will stay in another year?
With the new catalog coming, I’d like to get an idea who needs a new catalog! I’ll have one set aside for all my regular customers from this past year but fill out the form so I can be sure I have correct addresses.

Someone asked me how Stampin’ Up got the lemons stamped 3x but not overlapping. It’s a basic technique called Masking, a real staple for stamping when putting flowers in vases or a bunny peeking out of a basket. I like to use Post-it notes with the sticky all over the note for masking but you can use copy paper or a very thin vellum. Here is a video from the Stampin’ Up Corporate training team:
