3 Birthday Cards…

I’m in Salt Lake City this week for the Stampin’ Up annual convention. Well actually, I’m here a few days early, squeezing in some time for another passion of mine, genealogy.  I’m still working on some needle-in-the-haystack ancestors from Virginia and Ohio. Salt Lake has one of the largest collections of records in the US.  I love the hunt and I’m excited for what I might find!  Wish me luck!

I love to swap with other talented stampers and this month, I picked 3 to share with you. They have a common theme and color palette!

I’m in love with Amy Ward’s card.  The layout, the stamping is to perfection and she took the time to add the coordinating Washi Tape candles. It looks like she added the washi tape, then used an exacto blade to trim off the bottom where it meets the cake.  The stamp set is called Build A Birthday in photopolymer. (I’m posting supply pics at bottom of post)  I love the big happy bday greeting, it is a host reward set. (email me how to get it)

This next one is by Kathy Dean, using the Sprinkles of Life stamp set and Tree builder punch for cupcakes. I like how she stamped on the dazzling diamonds glitter paper and punched out.  I wouldn’t have thought it would stamp well but it did!

IMG_3426.JPG

The next one is stamped by Jamie Adcock and again using Sprinkles of life. I liked how she took a non-birthday folder like the Boho Chic and it works! Totally different color palette for birthdays also, with new In Colors, Dijon, watermelon, Taupe and mint.

Here are the main supplies they used in the cards above:

While I’m away, go stamp something!

I’ll be posting live from convention once a day here on my blog.

Corrugated Paper: Happy 4th Card

IMG_2111

4th badge

For those of you celebrating the 4th of July, I hope you have perfect weather & a wonderful time with friends and family.

I had some time last week to play with the new corrugated paper from Stampin’ Up. It’s on page 148 of the annual catalog. It comes in four 12×12 sheets, 2 white and 2 kraft:

IMG_2110

(if you have been stamping a while, you might remember using the corrugated paper the light bulbs came in as a creative embellishment!)

birgitt paper stars

I was “Pin-spired” by this card by Birgitt2011, that’s all I could see with the watermark in the corner.  The link did not lead to anywhere, so that’s the best I can credit!

IMG_2109

The Corrugated paper cuts nicely with framelits and punches!   Just remember to cut it upside down, so the framelit is placed on the smooth side of the paper when running through the Big Shot.

IMG_2112

I used a sponge dauber with Real Red and Pacific Point to color the white stars.  Use something like a stylus to keep it in place and keep the ink off your fingers.

I hung them with linen thread and let them dangle.  The largest stars are stuck on with dimensionals.

Enjoy your weekend and go stamp something!

Garden in Bloom

IMG_3315

I was feeling bright and happy when I made this card so I went with bright and happy colors!

Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo and Old Olive stamped in a Memento Tuxedo Black outline. The little dots were made with my black marker. I added a black cs oval and the new 3/8″ stitched satin ribbon in basic Black.

If you look closely you can see the new White Perfect Accents.  What makes them white is actually an adhesive sticker on the back but if you take off the sticker, they are clear!  If you leave them white, they are perfect for coloring with a sharpie or the blendies if you have those.

Back to the stamp set….it’s a really fun  2-Step photopolymer set that’s new in this year’s Stampin’ Up catalog.  It’s called Garden In Bloom. (click on pic below to go to my store to see it full size)

The colors reminded me of a Mary Engelbreit fabric or poster like she is known for…

arts and crafts

One thing to remember when stamping these flowers is to keep the tab in the same place. It can be hard to line them up when stamping.  There is a little point or tab sticking out on the stamp, so if you remember to stamp them both UP for example, you won’t be stuck trying to match up the petals.

My Review of the New SU In Colors

I have about 100 boxes to unpack in our new house BUT I dropped them all to open my preorder box of new goodies!

Every year when the new Stampin’ Up catalog comes out in early June, we get 5 new colors.  These last 2 years and are a more trendy addition to our collection, so they are called In Colors.  You will probably see some of these colors pop up in stores like home decor and clothing, much like last year with Blackberry Bliss and Lost Lagoon.  Stampin’ Up likes to use these in their Designer papers also.

As a demonstrator, we can order the colors early. I did splurge on expedited shipping because I leave for Hawaii in a few days on the Stampin’ Up! trip and I still have to do a swap for that.   Some people splurge on jewelry, I splurge on shipping 🙂

We still have this month left to order the retiring stamps so don’t miss out on your favorites going away soon!

I make bookmarks to include in my catalogs every year and I cut them down to 2″ x 8-1/2″.  I used the new Banner punch (coming in June in the new catty) on the ends and the Scallop tag topper punch on the tops.  (hope that’s still going to be current, forgot to check that!)

So let’s look closely at the upcoming new In Colors from Stampin’ Up!

Cucumber Crush

It’s great to have a nice Kelly green! It’s fresh, and cool and summery.  It’s much brighter than wild wasabi but seems to be a shade lighter than gumball green.  I think of cucumbers as a much lighter green but I’m not sure what I would have called it either!

Delightful Dijon

This one may have to grow on me. It’s darker than starfruit, and that did grow me a little.   I think I could layer it with hello honey as it seems to be a few shades darker than that. Dijon is a good name for it but Delightful…..not yet for me.

 Mint Macaron

IMG_1256

I was expecting a tacky mint Color, although mint chocolate chip is my favorite ice cream!  To me, it is more like a out old old sage shadow, if you remember that.  I’m not sure how to pronounce macaron or macaroon but we get to practice the spelling for two years 🙂

Tip Top Taupe

I think this is a needed color. It’s sort of reminds me of a darker Sahara Sand, so it will layer well with that. If I named it, I may call it Gallant Greige or Mischievous Mushroom:)

 IMG_1255

Watermelon Wonder

For the life of me, I keep thinking this should be GREEN! I know the inside of a watermelon is red…watermelon candy is red….

This is a very bright color, almost a lighter version of poppy or a darker version of strawberry slush 🙂 it is almost a neon color,  but not THAT bright.  I think I like it. I might like the ink better than the paper right now!

Well that’s how I feel about them right out of the box!   As time goes on, I will love them as I do the others.  One of the pre-order sneak peek sets I bought was this one called “I Think You’re Great”.  I’ll use that to punch ink samples for my book marks

Off to do more unpacking!

Mojo Monday #387 Glimmer Birthday

I love sketch challenges!

My problem is that I rarely have time to participate but I woke up early this morning to get my mojo on.

The Mojo Monday blog had this great sketch today:

IMG_3029

And so I made this:

cake glimmer LH

Glimmer paper is tricky to take a picture of but it’s peeking out from holes I die cut along the side, the bottom and the balloon string.  The silver glimmer paper repeats 3x but my red repeats just 2x, which was less than I wanted but anytime I tried to add more red, it seems too ‘matchy’!

I resisted the urge to put a bow or something on it since I want to use it for a masculine bday card this month.

I used the Sale-A-Bration freebie stamp set called Big Day in Night of Navy ink.  Stamped it again in Real Red, fussy cut that and glued in place.  The lighter blue cs is Marina Mist and Silver Glimmer paper for the sparkle.  The balloon is punched with my 3/4″ circle punch, sponged a little.

The little cut out dots are using the new Mini Treat Bag thinlits Dies.  There are 3 super border dies in the set!  It’s a pricey set of dies but so much you can do with the accessories alone.

Tomorrow I’ll post the Weekly Deals and anything else new coming out.

Until then

A Herd of Swaps for you!

I’m so lucky to swap with talented stampers each month!  I thought I’d share a few of my favorites lately for some inspiration.

From the Herd is a fun stamp in the Occasions catalog.

Perfect for office, family or group giving as well as just a stamp that makes anyone smile!

One of my team mates found this photo on Pinterest and it looks almost like the stamp!

farm

Kimberly Allen water-colored 12 swaps for our group, taking such perfect care in all the details!

IMG_3018

This is a pretty vanilla and gold glittered card using the single stamp, Blended Bloom.

IMG_3016

It was created by Mary Hall and she added Gold Glitz Dazzling Details around the petals and gold glimmer paper behind the doily.  The Circles Collection framelits have the big scallop so she just folded a vanilla card and didn’t cut just an inch on the top fold to create the card.

weekly deals small

A few good ones this week! If you don’t have the Pansy Punch, it’s a great flower punch that is mid-sized, not too big, not too small.  There’s a flower set to coordinate in the annual catalog also called Flower Shop.

Handmade Birthdays!

The last few weeks have been super fun for Matt and I with Stampcation, our birthdays and a mini vacation to West Palm Beach.  West Palm was our destination to see the Last Comic Standing.  If you watched the comic competition this past year, you know how funny these guys are!   Worth the drive to see them and we got in some beach time while we were there, too.

Getting cards in the mail is such a delight!

Take time to send one of your handmade cards out this week, Ok?  You will make someone’s day:)

This one was made by Deb Townsend in CA.  I love all the layers and on the inside, a cute lil pop up!

20141104-075212.jpg

She used the photopolymer stamp set called Flower Patch and our Stampin’ Up paper stack called Moonlight with Blackberry Bliss and Honey color combo.

My WI friend, Debbi Muche, sent me this super fun pop up Stampin’ Up box card!

20141104-075331.jpg

It folds flat for mailing and isn’t it the happiest card?

20141104-075630.jpg

While at Stampcation, Nikki and Lisa made this for me!  They were crafting up a storm making these GORGEOUS fabric frames.  I sure with SU sold this fabric again!   They used the Spiral flower die to create those perfect roses.

Swaps to Share!

I’m a lucky stamper to be able to swap 10 cards each month with a group of demonstrators around the states.  I love getting my box each month to see what they created! Here are a few from this month.  (I love them all but have a full day ahead of me and have to limit today!)

20140909-093423.jpg

Kimberly Allen is a master at the coloring with any medium and now here with the Blendies, just perfect!

20140909-093419.jpg

See how she used the light gray for shadows around the flowers?  Adds so much.  She used Corner Garden, which looks like nothing when you see it in black and white in the catty 🙂

20140909-093414.jpg

I love this bird because it’s so realistic! This one was stamped by Carole Gilmore using the stamp set, An Open Heart:

open heart

I tried to use the SU Stencils to create a plaid using this set, but I don’t think it was too successful.

What do you think?

A few new item from SU and the weekly Deals:

you're wonderful pp

Another Photopolymer Set, You’re Wonderful, is just too sweet!   You can print the flyer for true to life size!

18 stamps, 23.95  It looks like the words are curved to fit in the banners.

youre wonderful pp

A new Photopolymer set called 25 Days popped up today!  #135041  $25.95.

25 days photopolymer

The description says “Make the holidays count by counting down the days with this creative photopolymer set. Perfect for stamping advent calendars, it’s sure to be a centerpiece of your season. Set quantity: 25.”  We needed a current one for people who want to make advents this year, so this is a nice addition!

The Weekly Deals really have some Deals this week!

That 2″ punch is new this year and it fits nice and snug into the 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle punch!  So does the 1-3/4 but this is a bit larger and looks nice! And the glitter….we are heading into the holidays so glitter will be upon us soon….literally!

Swap it?

I’m playing around in the stamp room today for a bit.

Our Stampin’ Up annual convention in Utah is just a few weeks away and need to come up with a nice card but easy enough to make 100 of them!

What do you think of this one? Swappable?

20140702-142715.jpg

I used Kinda Ecletic stamp set

and a Color Coach combo of Smoky Slate, Calypso Coral and Soft Sky :

20140702-140639.jpg

(I love how that color coach makes me use combos I would not normally use)

So leave me a comment – yay or nay?

Linda.
