Big Shot Organization Cart

I’ve been setting up my new craft area here in the new house in NC.  For those of you who have been in my FL stamp room (or you can see the old pics here) you know I’m an ‘everything out’ stamper.  I have to SEE it out so I will use it.

I like slat wall to hold pegs so I can hang my most used framelits.  I have clear slat wall bins to hold the rest and folders.

I wanted a rolling big shot station since I frequently may but out 50+ items at a time and I may want to roll it out to the tv, the sun or wherever!

I got this cart at Ikea.  You can find it HERE

I like that I can pick up the one end and roll it.  All 4 wheels gets unsteady unless they lock.  It holds 2 big shots, and I like 2 out so I don’t have to toggle back and forth between the magnetic plate and embossing folder platform.

It’s got 2 drawers to hold m extra plates and waxed paper, etc.

Lots of storage underneath for my dies and bag, too!  For only 99.00, it does pretty good.

Now the SU specials of the week!

The sweetheart punch is a good deal this week if you don’t have that one. There are a few stamp sets it coordinates with like the You’re So Sweet (page 57) and Groovy Love (page 20)

Get your ribbons under control…

My good friend Trish has always been a smarty pants and has fantastic ideas.  She had this vision to invent ribbon holders and she had a tall wish list.  Her husband, Steve, has the invention bug also and together they created the Ribbon Roll Control.

Since SU doesn’t carry ribbon holders anymore (and they didn’t work perfectly anyway, so I gave mine away when they retired) I was the first one on her sign up list to get a set!

Trish isn’t particularly fond of having her picture taken but I forced her…here she is in my stamp room where I have all my ribbon organized in her Ribbon Roll Control holders.  We had a blast last week filming her first infomercial and Matt did a great job editing.  In case you want to want to watch, here it is:

These organizers are crystal clear acrylic and assemble together with no glue!  They aren’t meant to travel from place to place but you hang them on a wall, line them up on shelves or stack them in 3’s.  Here is a side view stacked:

I have every roll of ribbon that SU currently has so I needed 5.  I bought 6 (2 sets of 3) so I’d have an extra one for the Holiday catalog coming up and some retired ribbon that I use a lot.  Right now SU has small rolls so I could have bought just the Petites but  I wanted some of the larger Originals in case SU comes out with larger rolls later.

I’m so excited for Trish and Steve and their new adventure!  If you want to get a set of these, you can go to www.ribbonrollcontrol.com

or if you just want to give her a cyber cheer and an ‘way to go girl!’  then you can email her at trish@ribbonrollcontrol.com   I know it can be scary just starting out a new business but I believe she’s on to something good!

My Convention Button Booth! Part 1: Organization

I had a great time presenting at the Stampin’ Up convention last Wednesday night at the kick off party!  It was such a nice compliment to be asked and I was in great company with my other booth buddies LeeAnn Greff (punches), Lyssa Zwolenek (Flirtatious Suite), Jan Tink (backgrounds) , Susan Campfield (ribbons), Brandi Wiggins (Big Top Suite), Lisa Freeman (Distressing) and Fran Sabad (Beau Chateau).

It was cool to see my name on the big sign!  They said I could take it home with me but I didn’t think I’d have room in my already-over-the-limit-heavy suitcase and then what would I do with it once I got it home?

Baking Buttons: Organization

Button Organization on a cookie sheet - Linda Heller

Stampin’ Up asked me to feature a cute stamp set called Button Buddies, which in our new Idea Book & Catalog.  They also said to come up with storage ideas.   I thought a cookie sheet (cheap one from Old Time Pottery 1.99) would be an inexpensive and easy way to organize all of our buttons.  I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch holes for the ribbon.  The cookie sheet is about 11 x 17″ inside and fits all 4 color groups which have 6 colors in each.  24 containers fit perfectly!

I’m uploading my Baking Buttons template (Thanks to my wonderful husband, Matt, who made up the template for me!)  It’s a PDF and you can print, cut into strips and punch with a 1-3/4″ circle puch if you want to make one, too!  Click HERE for template.

Close up - punch with 1-3/4" circle punch. Linda Heller

Use SU stack & Store containers and Circles #2 die with SU magnet sheets. Punch cs circle with 1-3/4" circle punch.

That Circle #2 was just made to cut our magnet sheets to put on the bottom of our Stack & Store containers or if you have the button/brad containers already.

I did a little “Stampbuster” experiment with our magnet sheets!  I bought some from a craft store and tried them out to see which were stronger.  HANDS DOWN, Stampin’ Up’s were way stronger!  You should have seen the other brand slide down the cookie sheet once the buttons were in there!

Skinnhy Button Storage using our clear mount stamp cases - Linda Heller

If space is limited, you can put your buttons in our clear mount empty stamp cases.  I used a 1/2″ circle punch for the color cs dots with some glue to see what colors are inside. I like being able to see and grab the color quickly. 4 cases have the 4 color groups seperated, Brights-Regals-Subtles-Neutrals.  I do keep a rubber band around the bottom if standing upright just in case they fall off my shelf!

I have lots of projects using the Button Buddies that I came up with for my presentation.  I made some videos of some of those and will post throughout the week so c’mon back for more buttons!

From Grrrrr to Great: Tote Bags

While I was at Founder’s Circle last September, I had my 10th anniversary with Stampin’ Up! It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long but as I look back at all the changes in my life, Stampin’ Up was always by my side.  Along with the memories, I have tote bags… lots of them.  From every convention, leadership and other incentive events I had a closet full and they were a big mess:

messy-bags

I found this at Bed, Bath & Beyond.  It is an over-the-door purse holder.  (The link to buy them is here)  There were 2 of them in a pack for 9.95.  Just what I needed to hang all those tote bags that I want to keep and actually use once in a while!   I’m now hanging them behind a door in my stamp room:

I can fit 2 rows on the back of my door which is holding 16 totes!  I guess it would depend on your size of door, too.

Happy Organizing! Linda

From Grrrrr to Great: Sizzlit and Folders

Josey from CA asked me for ideas to store Sizzlets.   I had them in a little basket and since they are all the same color, they are really tough to tell apart unless you take a close look at ’em!

I had some baseball card sleeves.  Years ago, demonstrators swapped Trading Cards at conventions.  Some rubber stamping conventions still do, but demonstrators have stepped away from those little works of art in the last few years.  So I cut out my sizzlet dies with some SU card stock  and glued them on the front of the pocket:

Of course, Sizzix has storage boxes you can buy:

Laurie in Lake Elmo, MN  shared this idea:  For the Cuttlebug folders I took my daughters empty makeup case. The top holds the plates and a couple folders, the bottom holds the rest of the collection.

I’m getting ready to leave for Hawaii in one week! Can’t believe it is almost here.   My friend Shantaie suprised me by sending me this cute lil’ package in the mail today!  Perfect shades of Hawaii pinks for my toes and pink flamingos.  Thanks so much Shantaie!  (Those flamingos are from Stampin’ Up about 5 years ago – I sure do miss ’em!) p.s.  She has a really cute blog so stop by and say hello.  It’s called Inking Pink

From Grrrr…to Great! Bigz Storage

Hi stampers!  I had a rubber stamping expo this weekend, so I am a day late in posting.  Six of my downline joined me in working the booth (thank you Susie, Cyndra, Linda, Jackie, Myra and Cindy!!) and it was fun to stamp with everyone.   We had a little 3×3 make and take using all the punches with the Sale-A-Bration stamp set, Polka Dot Punches and coordinating paper.  It also used the word window punch.  This is what everyone made at the booth:

3cards

I’ve had some requests for help for Sizzix storage.  I can relate also!  So this week I wanted to figure out a solution to store all of my Sizzix BIGZ dies so I can find them easily.   Stacking them on my shelf was driving me crazy, trying to read the name sideways and then they fall down in domino fashion.

Here is the video for what I did – the pics and the descriptions are below for those of you that can’t watch video:

I ended up using my Forget Me Not keeper.  I have lots of these and I love them.  They are sturdy, have heavy duty plastic dividers and look snazzy.  They are in the Stampin’ Up catalog, 11.95.   I can fit 12 Bigz dies in the box and the lid still stays on even though they are a little bit taller than the sides.

forget-me-not-keeper-bigz

See the drawn image on the die above?  I cut each of my dies with a 5-1/2″ x 4- 1/2″ piece heavy card stock.  (the stock that comes in your DSP works great)  I used the cutout as a template and used a silver sharpie to draw the design on the back of each die.  That way I can flip through and find them quickly.  I keep the templates in the box with the dies.  (trial and error:  I originally cut out the designs in DSP and glued on the back of the die.  Didn’t hold up well after a few weeks!)  They store on their side so they fit in the box.  I wrote the name on the side with the same silver sharpie.

Mary Swan sent me this email about Sizzix Storage Boxes:

“Sizzix makes a box for storing the dies – different boxes to fit all sizes – go to www.Sizzix.com and search under “storage”.  The Bigz box is currently $24.95, but they very often have them in their “Tuesday Teaser” section – I’ve gotten several boxes for $7.49.  They come with plastic inserts that hold the dies upright, so they aren’t continually falling over, which I noticed in the video you were having trouble with.  If you haven’t signed up for the “Tuesday Teaser” notification, do – there’s some great deals in there – different every Tuesday, and only on Tuesday.  At their site, click on “Specials” tab and then Tuesday Teasers.”

Thanks, Mary!

How to store all those Sizzix plates and pads?  My good buddy Toni gave me this acrylic letter sorter”

letter-sorter-empty

I used it to store all of my plates:

letter-sorter-filled

I was thinking about how a napkin holder would work, too!  Here are some other ideas to hold those dies, folders and plates. (some of them would be too small for those of you who have tons of them!)

This is a Toast Holder-    I didn’t even know there was such a thing but you can buy them HERE

toast-holder

This is a really cool thing called The Collator.  I think it would hold lots of the big Texturz plates and pads.

Shabby Chic Solution:  If you are handy  and have some old springs laying around, this could work for lots of dies and plates for a stamp room that has antiques in it. I guess you could make the springs as wide and spread out as you like ot fit the Bigz dies.  You can visit Margo’s Robo Junker blog for other creative things they did  here

spring1

These next 2 are leather CD holder options look very nice but more pricey at 17-22 bucks  (to find them online, go here)

boxopen-box

This looked interesting to hold the Bigz dies BUT not sure if the dimensions are perfect for them.  It says it is 5-1/2″ wide but so are the dies.  So not sure if that is the inside measurements.  I think if it holds a CD, it should fit our dies, right?    CD rackcd

I figured out a way to store Sizzlets!  More on that in a few days….

Rebecca Ednie emailed and asked for some advice from all of the organized stampers out there!

“I need storage for 6×6″ paper packs! Right now several of them are
in baggies but I need something better. As you use them, they fall  apart and the scraps fall out. Some people store them oversized
plastic CD bins but I don’t really have a place to put those. Any
other ideas?”

So anyone out there already solved that one?   My thought would be to use a filing crate box with hanging folders.  If  space is an issue, maybe an expandable file folder from the office store like this one I just found at Kinkos on clearance for $6.

bagWhat about a 6×6 album?  Put all of paper packs and pieces in top loading page protectors?  They would stay organized that way, altho you’d have to pull them out to see them all.

Happy Stampin’!

From Grrrrr to Grrrreat: Watercolor Crayon Storage

What makes you go ‘grrrrrr’?  I’m not talking about things like drivers who don’t use their blinkers or when they forget to put ketchup in your bag to go with your fries.  That’s  a WHOLE different blog.   For stampers like us,  getting organized and fixing those little annoyances really helps us enjoy our creative time when we have it!

Someone asked me recently if I store my watercolor crayons in their tins.   My grrrrrr with my crayons was that I was constantly going in and out of the 4 tins to get different colors.   And THEN reorganizing them to keep the Regals together, the Earth together….seriously, it was driving me mad.  So I gave in and threw them all together!  I realized that I rarely take the complete set to workshops but grab the colors I need and put them in one tin anyway if I need them to travel.

If you store them another way, write in and let me know!

wc-crayons

This is a votive holder that was given to me a few years ago by my friends Susie and Dede.  (I think it came from Hallmark) It’s perfect to keep all of my crayons ready for use.

wc-mug

I have a second set that I keep in my SU mug from Leadership 2004.  I think it originally had hot chocolate in it.  It’s nice and easy to transport but not as easy to take them in and out as the votive holder.

Ok, what is YOUR grrrrr…?  Maybe we can come up with a solution  or if I dont’ have an idea, I’ll post it to the stampin’ readers for some help and we can make it GRRRREAT!
